Carotid cavernous fistula masquerading as delayed suprachoroidal hemorrhage after trabeculectomy
Objective: Carotid cavernous fistulae (CCFs) are abnormal communications between the cavernous sinus and the carotid arterial system. Based on the etiology, CCFs can be traumatic, spontaneous and rarely iatrogenic. We report an interesting case of new onset CCF associated with shallow choroidal detachment after trabeculectomy surgery. Method: Observational case report Result: A 69-year-old male...

purpose: to describe a complicated case of traumatic carotid-cavernous fistula (ccf) and our management strategy. case report: a 13-year-old patient was referred one month following a car accident and facial trauma with severe proptosis, chemosis and limitation of ocular movement. presence of murmur and an enlarged superior ophthalmic vein on orbital imaging suggested an arteriovenous fistula. ...

PURPOSE The classic symptoms and signs of carotid cavernous sinus fistula or cavernous sinus dural arteriovenous fistula (AVF) consist of eye redness, exophthalmos, and gaze abnormality. The angiography findings typically consist of arteriovenous shunt at cavernous sinus with ophthalmic venous drainage with or without cortical venous reflux. In rare circumstances, the shunts are localized outsi...
متن کاملComputed tomography of carotid-cavernous fistula.
Fourteen patients with angiographically-proven carotid-cavernous fistulas were evaluated by computed tomography (CT). Unilateral or bilateral exophthalmos was noted in 12 patients. Slight blurring of the margin of the globe was present in two, presumably due to pulsations of the globe or conjunctival edema. Superior ophthalmic veins were prominent in 12 patients and were often larger on the sid...
متن کاملSpontaneous resolution of direct carotid cavernous fistula.
Proptosis due to carotid cavernous fistula is rare sequelae of head injury. We report a case of post-traumatic, direct high flow carotid cavernous fistula that resolved spontaneously 06 weeks after carotid angiography. It however, resulted in loss of vision due to delay in early treatment. In the cases of post-traumatic proptosis, carotid cavernous fistula should be kept in mind.
